A friend of mine from kindergarten
who is in my first grade class looked at my snack today (of raspberries,
slightly mashed by the time snack time came around). She wrinkled her nose, saying, “Eeewww . . . that looks gross.” I, pondering my response to my friend, came
up with the following possible retorts:
1) What? They’re fruit. Have you never seen fruit before?
2) They’re
raspberries – fruit, and they won’t make you fat like the popcorn snacks that
you eat.
3) They’re
raspberries and really delicious. Want
to try some?
4) I think
we should just leave each other alone, don’t you think?
5) Don’t you
think we should just try to be friends?
Mommy
and Daddy-Ray say that my responses are all clever and imaginative and that
they are proud of me for thinking of ways to stand up for myself if someone is trying
to be mean to me or being insensitive. Mommy
and Daddy said, though, that they liked answer #3 best!
