Today
was Mother’s Day! We had a great time,
hanging out inside. For the first time
ever, we entertained ourselves for nearly an hour without asking 妈妈Mama to play with us. We brought in a little table into our room
and gave ourselves breakfast in the bedroom (Lucky Charms!) while 妈妈Mama lay in bed (she has
been sick for several weeks and was very tired from being up all nights
coughing). 姐姐(JieJie) read me several
books and we set up our little play area like a library with books displayed on
the bookshelves.
JieJie
and I helped Mama finish off the invitations for Jo-Ayi’s bridal shower. Mama says we have been a huge help.
妈妈 says there have been a lot of really fun things about my memory
lately:
- I was flipping through the crossword puzzle book that姐姐(JieJie) took from
Rite-Aid thinking it was free (妈妈Mama intends to
return it with us this week). When
I got to crossword puzzle #20, I told 妈妈 – we live on this floor!
By golly, I was right!
- I also remembered another thing from December or January
completely unprompted, something Mama didn’t even realize that I
registered back then. However, Mama
can no longer remember what it was.
If she remembers, she’ll write it down later. PS
(5/12/2003): Mama remembers what it was! Back in January while I was staying with
Uncle Bob, Sophia borrowed my diamond band and lost it. We searched high and low for it for
10-20 minutes before finding it. I
hadn’t given it another thought either that evening or in the last several
months, but Sophia apparently had.
Out of the blue, a few days ago, Sophia was looking at my ring and
reminded me of how she had lost my ring while we were at Yi-Gong’s. Tonight at Pancake House, the topic came
up again and she said that she remembered that Yi-Gong, not Gong-Gong was
the one who ultimately found the ring.
I have to confess that I have no recollection. If she hadn’t reminded me of the
situation, I’m sure I never would have given it another thought
again. Kiana also reminded me this
evening of how Sophia (although I can’t recall whether it was Sophia or
Kiana, truth be told) lost my silver/ruby ring on the plane last
year. I do recall that and how
Kiana, Sophia, and I were on all fours looking for the darn ring and where
it might have rolled. We had half
the plane looking for that ring!
Baba was watching the movie with his headphones and didn’t notice
the excitement around him as we pulled out cushions and peeked under seats
for several rows back. Funny how
Kiana remembered and that was another one of those things that I hadn’t
given another thought to. We found
the ring an hour later and I think that perhaps Baba may have been the one
to find it after he realized that the several rows around him were in a
tizzy thinking it was my engagement ring.
