Dearest Julia, It has been another out-of-this-world
excellent and amazing month with you. You
started November, trying (and enjoying) homemade carrots. Since then, you’ve only had a couple of jars
of baby food (which Baba bought when he was out at the
mall with you and didn’t have any food, a blender and/or Mama handy!). Other than a couple of jars of baby food, I
have been making all your food from scratch and more recently you have been trying
out our food. I’m beginning to wonder whether the reason
American children are such picky eaters is because
they don’t eat enough of our (i.e. adult)
food? Who knows . . . I do know that you’ve
tried carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, split peas, apples,
pears, and bananas so far. You eat
almost everything (but you weren’t really keen on the split peas yet)! In the photo to the right, you have food all
over your face. You like to put your
toes in your mouth as you’re eating and then you wipe your feet on your
forehead! J
Speaking of funny things, you may
know by now that I have a sometimes twisted sense of humor. Earlier this month, I put you on the floor
with many of our dolls and took your photo. Guess which one is
you!? J
Are you interested to hear about the kind of “fights” your
dad and I have? Fights
is too strong a word. In fact, I could
call them “disagreements” and even that would be an exaggeration. Your dad is incredibly thoughtful, kind,
helpful, understanding, and giving. There
seems to never be a reason to fight with him.
Here are our “big issues” from the last month. He bought you a winter coat from Oilily. It is adorable. It was also $180 for a child’s jacket which
you will likely outgrow in two months! So . . . with his agreement, I returned
it. A couple weeks later, it went on
sale. He bought it again. He brought it home sort of sheepish and told
me I could return it again. I did
not. He is soooo
infatuated with you and you look sooooo cute in it
and your dad looks sooooo happy when he sees you in
it or even thinks about you in it, it’s
the very least I can do to support his impulsive whims! And, as for our other disagreement this
month, look who is in the crib with you. Guess which parent thinks it’s cute and which
parent is worried about you! Probably not much of a challenge to figure
that one out! Finally, we finished off
the month with a wonderful celebration of both Thanksgiving and
Christmas with all of
Baba’s family. Here you are with Busia
and also with all your cousins and with cousin Jack
who loved giving you kisses and playing with you. While our relatives were in town, you also enjoyed
your first swim with
Baba and Sophia, while Busia
and I watched (and took photos) adoringly. Speaking of adoring relatives, note also how
cute you look in new outfits Baba got for you/me. I’ll try to add more photos from Thanksgiving
and relatives. It seems that I was so busy, I didn’t take hardly any photos. Speaking of busy, one of the things which you
and I have been up to
(and this is why I decided to
write this entry as a letter to you, rather than in your own voice, which would
be awkward to do for what I’m about to write) . . . you’ve been using the
potty. No dirty diapers for over a
week! You’ve been great (and Mama has
been well trained to know when you want to sit on the potty!). In fact, even tonight, at 2 am, you got up
and started signaling you needed to sit on the potty! I brought you over and you did your
thing! What a great baby you are. We love you!
